“Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow”
Robert Kiyosaki

I agree with Robert. What you do in this time is what you will be in the future. What you do in the present can affect your outcome, it can affect your future. For example, if you are not doing your homework today, when it is due tomorrow, then chances are that you will get a bad grade. Your future is preset and the outcome is certain. As to if you do your homework, then you will get a good grade and pass that class, that future can also be secure. Like I said before, what you do right now, affects what will happen tomorrow.

SQ3R: A Great Reading and Studying Technique

Improve Your Study Skills
SQ3R Stands for:
Survey
Question
Read
Recite
Review

It is a proven technique to sharpen your study skills. In college, you’ll be required to do lots of reading. You’ll often have to complete reading assignments in several different books for several different courses at a time.
SQ3R helps make reading and studying purposeful and effective, so that you use your time most efficiently. Here’s how this strategy works.

Survey
Let’s say your assignment is to read on chapter. First get an idea of what the chapter is about by reviewing the highlights:
·    Read the title, headings and subheadings.
·    Notice words that are italicized or bold.
·    Look at charts, graphs, pictures, maps, and other visual material.
·    Read captions.
·    Read the very beginning and end of the chapter.

NEVER
“There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil.”
Ayn Rand
(novelist, philosopher, playwright, screenwriter)

I agree with Ayn Rand, there is no justification for the choosing of something evil, it will always be wrong. There simply is no justification to what you choose, whether you think that it might be right, it will be wrong. For example, if you choose to not do your homework because your teacher won’t go to school the next day, you are still doing something wrong. You think that it’s okay because nothing will happen, but it’s still not okay. Ayn is just trying to tell us not to choose the wrong for any reason, whether you think it’s right, ever.

Tip 5
Tip 5: keep a List of Questions
When you feel confused about something you’re reading, write down any questions you have. Sometimes your questions are answered as you read further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignments; they have read the texts and are familiar with them. When you have specific questions, your teachers can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the learner.
Asking questions to yourself, to the teacher, and to others, is a great learning method. When you cease to ask questions, you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions as you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you are reading and therefor will expand your mental capacities more than almost anything else.
The philosopher Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge about and making the most of your education. So pick up a book … and a pen.

“When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece. This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day.”
John Wooden
I think John is right. You have to try your hardest to improve. Every day you have to learn from your own mistakes and the mistakes of others to become a better person and keep moving forward. For example, if you are playing basketball, and you miss a few shots, then you should try your hardest to improve your shots, practice. I think that’s what he’s trying to tell us, to always keep trying to improve and practice.

“Every time I’ve done something that doesn’t feel right, its ended up not being right.”
Mario Cuomo
(52nd governor of NY)

I understand what Mario is saying. It is sort of telling you, that if you don’t feel that it is right, then don’t do it. With his example, he said he felt something was wrong and when he did it, it was wrong. That’s the overall message he is sending everyone. For example, if you feel ditching a class is wrong, and you ditch, then you will feel bad and know it was wrong. If it doesn’t feel right, never do it.

5 Tips for Success

Reading and writing go hand in hand. The better you understand a text, the more likely you are to successfully communicate your thoughts about it in writing. So it’s important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that in mind, here’s how to improve your reading comprehension.

Tips 1-2
Tip 1: Annotate
Be an active reader. Instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important story elements, key factual information and significant ideas in the text.
Tip 2: Note the Author’s Writing Style
Every author writes with a specific purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading, look for patterns in the author’s writing. For example, you may notice a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols—or the use of distinct type sentence structure. Authors employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, so be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

“The Three Don’ts”
Don’t Whine
Don’t Complain
Don’t Make Excuses
-John Wooden

I agree with John wooden. These are the important 3 don’ts in school. For example, every day I see kids whining about what they have to do for homework or what they have to do in class. I see kids complain to their teachers that they receive too much work, when in reality it is a small amount. I see kids making excuses that they didn’t do the homework because of something that isn’t even a valuable excuse. These three don’t are important because if you don’t do all of these things, then you will excel in your academic work. It has been proven to do so. Just take a look at John’s players/students.

3. Set Attainable Goals
If you’re having trouble writing a 25-page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don’t focus on that final number. Break the paper down and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any project in small chunks.
4. Find a Social Support Network
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.
5. Acknowledge Your Accomplishments
Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send an email, get a snack. Then move on to the next project.

“The Three Nevers”
Never Lie
Never Cheat
Never Steal
-John Wooden
I agree with John. There are others that you shouldn’t do but these are the most important. Never lie. Don’t tell anyone other than the truth. You will be a trustworthy and honest person, and people will like you better for that. Never cheat. You should never cheat on anything. What is the benefit of it, you might pass a test or a course, but you won’t learn anything from doing so, besides, you might even get caught and face serious consequences. Never steal. Never take anything that isn’t yours. How would you feel somebody stole from you? By doing these three things you are ensured a well feeling inside and a clear conscience. John was a great honorable man and he will be dearly missed.

5 Tips for Staying Motivated Tips 1-2

5 Tips for Staying Motivated
Tips 1-2

To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.
1.  Focus on High-Impact Activities
The key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.

To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.

2.   Create New Challenges
Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to the one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports, pick a history book instead of another biography.

“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience. ”
Robert E. Lee

I agree with Robert. You will have all the time in the world to do what is right. There is no limit to time when it comes to that. That is why you should always choose the right. Also, like he says, it will become easier with practice. For example, you might have a hard time helping your mother with chores or you might have trouble doing your homework, but the more you do it, the easier it will become. You will be doing the right things at the right time, without even noticing it, or you might notice it, but you realize now, that it is easier than before. Your conscience will always be clear when you choose the right, so don’t be afraid to do so.

Take Control of Homework So It Doesn’t Control You

Take Control of Homework
So It Doesn’t Control You
Part 3

Take Advantage of Any Free Time
If you have a study period or a long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act like a small book with pages. You can even have separate ringed stacks for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER, PUT IT ON A CARD.
Study With A Friend
Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other, compare notes and predict test questions. Consider joining a study group.
Communicate
If you have concerns about the type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers, or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allow for homework and how to manage your tasks.
Celebrate Your Achievements
Reward yourself for hitting milestones or doing something well.

“Be always sure you’re right, then go ahead.”
Davy Crockett
1786-1836

I think that Davy is correct. You have to be sure that what you are doing is right. If you know that it is right, then you should go ahead and do that. In other words, I think he is saying think before you act. For example, if you are deciding whether to join a club, then you have to stop and think if what you are doing is right and if it is, then go ahead and join that club. Davy Crockett is a wise man.
