“Start with what is right rather than what is acceptable”
-Peter F. Drucker

I agree with Peter. You should always start with what is right. Don’t start with what is acceptable. For example, if you are going to do a class assignment, you want to do the best that you can so you start right away and write a very well written essay. You do not want to start a on the day before it is due and turn in something that is acceptable rather than something that is well done.

“To see what is right and not do it, it is want of courage.”
Confucius
I agree with Confucius. If you see something right and you choose not to do the same thing, it is the want of courage. You are not doing what you are supposed to. For example, if you see someone helping someone across the street, and you don’t do the same when help is needed, then you not doing any good. You are always supposed to follow someone in their good footsteps. There is nothing that you can’t do if it involves doing something that is right.

NEVER
“There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil.”
Ayn Rand
(novelist, philosopher, playwright, screenwriter)

I agree with Ayn Rand, there is no justification for the choosing of something evil, it will always be wrong. There simply is no justification to what you choose, whether you think that it might be right, it will be wrong. For example, if you choose to not do your homework because your teacher won’t go to school the next day, you are still doing something wrong. You think that it’s okay because nothing will happen, but it’s still not okay. Ayn is just trying to tell us not to choose the wrong for any reason, whether you think it’s right, ever.

“Every time I’ve done something that doesn’t feel right, its ended up not being right.”
Mario Cuomo
(52nd governor of NY)

I understand what Mario is saying. It is sort of telling you, that if you don’t feel that it is right, then don’t do it. With his example, he said he felt something was wrong and when he did it, it was wrong. That’s the overall message he is sending everyone. For example, if you feel ditching a class is wrong, and you ditch, then you will feel bad and know it was wrong. If it doesn’t feel right, never do it.

“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience. ”
Robert E. Lee

I agree with Robert. You will have all the time in the world to do what is right. There is no limit to time when it comes to that. That is why you should always choose the right. Also, like he says, it will become easier with practice. For example, you might have a hard time helping your mother with chores or you might have trouble doing your homework, but the more you do it, the easier it will become. You will be doing the right things at the right time, without even noticing it, or you might notice it, but you realize now, that it is easier than before. Your conscience will always be clear when you choose the right, so don’t be afraid to do so.

“Be always sure you’re right, then go ahead.”
Davy Crockett
1786-1836

I think that Davy is correct. You have to be sure that what you are doing is right. If you know that it is right, then you should go ahead and do that. In other words, I think he is saying think before you act. For example, if you are deciding whether to join a club, then you have to stop and think if what you are doing is right and if it is, then go ahead and join that club. Davy Crockett is a wise man.

“I think it better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing, then to incur the reproach of our consciences and posterity.”
Robert E. Lee
I think that Robert is right. It is better to suffer for just a moment and do what is right, than to suffer for a long time doing what is wrong. For example, if someone has committed a robbery or something like that, and they lie, then they will have a long period of suffering. They soon start to feel guilty and down because of what they did, but as soon as they tell a lie, the pain might be there for a few moments while they’re saying it, but their suffering will be gone. Always tell the truth and feel good, don’t lie and feel bad. Like the famous saying; it’s better to hear the bitter truth, than the sweetest lie.

“Tell me what is right and I will fight for it.”
Woodrow Wilson
I agree with this statement. You have to fight for what is right and it depends from person to person what they see as right. For example Abraham Lincoln thought that everyone had the right to be free and equal and he fought to free the slaves and because of his perseverance and his hard work, he finally made it happen. He believed what was right and he fought for it. I think that you should fight for anything that you think is right and eventually, you will win.

“You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”
Rosa Parks

I agree with this statement. When you are choosing the right, then you should never have fear of what you are doing. But if you have fear constantly when you are doing something, then you know that you are choosing the wrong or you are about to. For example, if you always go to school on time or you are playing a sport, then you should have no fear of doing those things. If you lie or start to steal and have the fear that you might get caught, then you know that you are choosing the wrong at those times. Just do what is right and you will never have fear.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is do the right thing.”
Theodore Roosevelt

I think that Theodore is correct. He couldn’t have put it better. When you are deciding what to do, especially if it is a life changing decision, the best thing to choose is the right thing. For example if you are making a decision whether or not to go to a college or university, then you should make the right decision. And that decision is for you to go to a college or university. This quote also applies for any little small thing as well, whether it’s deciding to go a party or deciding whether or not to drink or smoke. Always choose the right thing to do when making a decision.

“To know what is right and not do it is the worst cowardice”
Confucius

I think that this statement is correct. The worst cowardice is when you know what is right and you don’t do it. For example, if you see a robbery take place or someone stealing and you know what is the right thing to do (which is to report it) and you don’t do it, then that is the worst cowardice. You know that doing the right thing is better but because you are a coward, you choose not to do it. You should always have the courage and bravery to stand up for what is right and not be a coward. You will go far in life if you do so.

Summary/Reflection

Summary/Reflection

This story is about a young sophomore named Jenna Huff that won the “Extreme “Sportsmanship” Award from the U.S. Olympic Committee. She helped another girl Deb finish the race even though she was going to pass her and go to state playoffs. She stopped and helped her cross the finish line one step in front of her to make sure that Deb would win.

I think that this is a great example of sportsmanship. This really is a touching story knowing that someone would give up a chance to win the race and win to help someone else who deserves it. She knew that she deserved to win, and she knew that she was badly hurt. She chose the right and knew what she had to do. I admire Jenna for doing what no one else would have done. She really did deserve that award.

“Choosing the right is always the right thing to do.”
Alex Linares

I think that this is correct. There is nothing better to do than choosing the right. No matter what, this will always be the right thing to do. For example, if you know that you have to do a lot of homework today and you are debating between doing homework or playing games, always choose the right and do your homework first. You might really want to play but doing your homework first will really benefit you more than doing it later. After you are done with the homework, you can play with the free time you have. Choosing the right is going to be the right thing to do. Every. Single. Time.

“What’s right isn’t always popular. What’s popular isn’t always right.”
Howard Cosell

There are many ways that this statement is true. For example, people smoke week or do drugs because it is fun or for whatever reason they have, but it is a wrong thing to do. The consummation of drugs has been gaining popularity over the years, but it is still viewed as wrong. As for people that don’t do drugs, they are the unpopular, “uncool” people and they are the ones that are actually doing what is right. Another example might be that of cussing or using bad words. This is really popular and can be seen everywhere in the media. This is thought of to be a normal popular thing when it is actually wrong. People who have not used bad or don’t use them at all get seen as not cool or unhip. This statement also goes along with the other quote, “Right is right, even if everyone is against it. Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it”.

“I know only that what is moral is what you feel good after and what is immoral is what you feel bad after.”
Ernest Hemingway
Pay attention to what’s right and what’s wrong.

I think that he’s trying to tell us about our morals. I think that what he means is that depending on who you are, what makes you feel good or right are your morals. What makes you feel bad is your immoral. Take me for example, when I get done with my homework, I feel a sense of accomplishment and good inside of me and I know that that is a good moral, on the other hand, if I don’t do my homework and show up the next day to class, I feel guilt and I feel bad, that is my immoral speaking to me. What right and what is wrong is all up to you.

“You will never regret doing what’s right.”
Anon

I think that this is true. You will never regret doing what you think is right. When you CTR, you feel really good and warm inside. You know in your mind that you did something good and therefor you don’t regret what you did. On the other hand when you CTW you feel bad, guilt, and melancholy for what you did. That is why many people regret doing what they think was wrong. When people regret, that’s when you can tell that they didn’t do what was right. If people don’t regret, then you can tell they actually did what was right.
